Hi Armando,
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that homeowners buy trust and confidence that you're the right person to solve their problem.
A few things that have helped us:
- Qualify early by asking questions about their concerns, timeline, budget expectations, and decision-making process.
• Spend more time listening than talking. Homeowners want to feel heard before they want to hear a sales pitch.
• Educate, don't sell. Show photos, explain the problem, discuss the consequences of doing nothing, and provide options.
• Focus on value instead of price. The lowest bid doesn't always win, but the contractor who communicates clearly and professionally often does.
• Follow up consistently. Many jobs are won simply because someone followed up when others didn't.
• Be responsive. Returning calls, showing up on time, and doing what you say you'll do builds credibility quickly.
• Ask for the business. After presenting your estimate, confidently ask if they have any questions and whether they're ready to move forward.
Most importantly, build relationships, not transactions. People remember how you treated them long after they forget the price. When homeowners trust you, closing ratios improve naturally.
