Milwaukee usually has the edge overall because of its trade-specific lineup and compact M12/M18 systems. DeWalt is excellent for heavy construction, framing, grinders, and general contractor work.

I use DeWalt but have used Milwaukee in the past.  I think both are quality products and both have certain tools that are poorly built and others that are tanks.  I landed on DeWalt because when I started my business there was a sale on a kit.  Once you get into a battery system, that is where you're likely to stay, and I don't think you can go wrong with either platform.  The only big thing missing in the DeWalt lineup are tools comparable to the M12 line.

As a former Mobile Tool Jobber (USA Tools retired); I sold and service a lot of Milwaukee Tools mostly for automotive tech's and DIY's customers ... I myself and a woodworker used mostly DeWalt and some Milwaukee because of the Battery base. However both companies are well known but owned by larger entities and mostly manufactured overseas.  However the "Pioneer" on Battery operated hand tools and equipment and the leader of all is "MAKITA", now that is a well centered Japanese corporation and only has One Battery System look it up and see...  Now that's my recommendation MAKITA ...

  • Milwaukee all the way! It seems they have a more diverse set of tools as well as reliable through and through!

DeWalt is my go-to. I prefer the price over Milwaukee. However, for low-price beat-around replaceable tools, I have had very good luck with Bauer from Harbor Freight.

  • We have both, but I prefer Milwaukee over most. I also like Porter Cable and some Bosch bigger SDS hammer drills. But for small businesses I think if a man has Dewalt and doesn't abuse them, takes care of them. They will do just fine

  • I'm a Dewalt DIY Gal and my tools have proven to be reliable for tough jobs

Always been a Milwaukee guy. That being said they are coming out with tools too fast and honestly quality is suffering. I paid over $120 for a small rechargeable light, clip is junk falls off all the time, could have got the same quality at Dollarama. 3 multi tools in a row that busted on the first job with simple things like cutting drywall or flooring. Drills don't last as long as they used to. I don't have the experience with DeWalt so no idea if they are any better.
