Hello Jobber Community! I’m really looking forward to this one. I had the chance to speak last year, and if I’m being honest, I spent more time preparing and speaking than actually enjoying the experience.
This year? I’m soaking it all in and can’t wait to hear from so many great speakers.
If I had to pick one I’m especially excited about, it’s Marc Randolph.
We heard him speak, and his message absolutely lit a fire under how we think about hiring... and letting go. One line in particular stuck with me:
“Stop telling me your company is like a family. It’s not. Just think for a moment: when was the last time you fired someone from your family?”
Oof. But also… spot on.
It’s your team, not your family.
He also challenged leaders to look at their current team and ask a tough question: If you had the chance today, would you hire them again? That’s a tall drink of water - especially for small teams - but it’s a powerful lens for both hiring and ongoing performance conversations.
Highly recommend the read if you haven’t seen it yet: https://mbrandolph.medium.com/you-are-a-team-not-a-family-7d4b626c4de8
P.S. Thank you, Julie !
