Firefighting, hands down. We spend a surprising amount of time dealing with the day-to-day things that inevitably come up in a small business: employee issues, covering when someone calls out, tracking down things that were missed, solving scheduling problems, and handling the hundred little operational issues that need an immediate answer.
None of it is unusual, but it can completely sidetrack the day when we’re trying to focus on strategy, growth, sales, and longer-term work. If I could hand off one thing, it would be owning that day-to-day operational firefighting so we could stay focused on actually building the business.
