What are the biggest challenges when starting a lawn care business from scratch?

What were the challenges and obstacles of starting a lawn care services?

Other than getting incorporated what was the easiest thing about starting up?

  • Biggest obstacle: No referral network.
Solution: Build relationships with realtors, property managers, HOAs, and other trades that can send work your way.

  • For me, the biggest challenge wasn’t mowing lawns—it was getting customers to trust a new business. When you’re starting from scratch, you don’t have many reviews, referrals, or a reputation yet. I had to put myself out there through Facebook, word of mouth, and consistently showing up and doing quality work.

Another challenge was learning the business side: pricing jobs correctly, tracking expenses, setting aside money for taxes, and making sure equipment maintenance didn’t eat into profits.

The easiest part was actually doing the work. If you’re willing to work hard, communicate well, and take pride in your results, the service itself is straightforward. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that consistency beats everything. Show up when you say you will, do quality work, and treat every yard like it’s your own. The referrals and repeat customers will come.
