My rockstar employee wants to start their own business doing the same thing we do 5 miles away

One of my best guys is starting a business doing the same work we do very close to our area. They are doing weekend jobs that are bleeding into the work week. How does this hard converation look with them. How should I react.

Here is an idea, have you tried actually branching out your business? You totally could keep him under your umbrella and still profit from that. Remember there is no difference from him starting the same business as jim boe down the other street, you cannot control that. However they are not you. You have a name now and a trajectory
