I definitely have gone through a lot of bad people to get to the good ones. I think the main thing is to fire quickly before it really negatively affects anything. Let this person know you have a zero tolerance for certain things (being late, unprofessionalism) and that they would be immediately terminated if any of those occur. Also having clear employment agreements. Actually I just listened to a really good podcast on this - The newest episode on contractor evolution. It's really helpful

Modifying our hiring process to align with our core values and using a score based interview process! I’m not sure why we didn’t consider this sooner, but it’s definitely made such a lasting impact on our retention and our team’s culture!
