Hey, thanks for opening up this conversation! You are 100% spot on—without strict boundaries, the business will happily consume every single hour you give it until you're completely running on fumes.
Knowing from my own experience and from managing people in service based professions, the single biggest game-changer I see (and practice) is strict communication containment.
Specifically: Turning off all business notifications at 5:30 PM and not looking at them until the morning.
When you’re hungry to grow, it’s so tempting to answer that client text or estimate request at 9:00 PM because you don't want to lose the lead. But all that does is train clients to expect you to be on-call 24/7.
The real shift happens when you leverage your systems to hold the line for you. Setting up automated "after-hours" text and email replies in Jobber keeps things completely professional, lets the customer know they're taken care of, and safely buys you your evening back.
Trusting the system to handle the fort until morning is the best boundary any owner can set for their sanity.

Love this! Same here. It's actually insane how much time I used to spend after-hours working!

Completely understand then feel drained to do things that I can control and should prioritize of the “ just one more little thing for the business”!

Great point! Boundaries don’t mean you care less about your customers they mean you’re building a business that can grow without burning yourself out. Using systems to stay professional while protecting your personal time is a game changer. 👏

Yes I totally agree with sticking to the orders of operation and felt every word when you mentioned being hungry to grow! I will be updating my orders of operation on our website and I sent a reminder on all social about adherence to our policies. I had to remind myself also though I have to practice what I preach and if I make one contingency I need to communicate and document that so there is no expectation of that behavior moving forward. My husband and I also owe it to ourselves to make sure we make time for family, together time, and most importantly rest. What is for us will find its way lord willing.
