When I first started my business, I was terrified of raising prices.
I thought if I was the cheapest company in town, clients would stay forever. So I’d underprice jobs, hesitate to increase rates, and bend over backward to “keep people happy.”
It didn’t work.
The clients who left over a $10 or $20 increase weren’t loyal to begin with. They were loyal to the lowest price.
Meanwhile, the clients who valued reliability, professionalism, communication, and consistency stayed with us even through multiple price increases.
Ironically, charging more also allowed us to offer better pay, better benefits, stronger training, and a more consistent experience for the clients who actually appreciated what we provided.
Now, when someone says, “The other company is cheaper,” I genuinely wish them the best.
Because I finally learned that competing on price attracts people who will leave for… price.
