The best way I've found to get leads is just asking your happy customers for referrals. After you finish a job and they're thrilled with the work, say something like 'Hey, if you know anyone else who needs this done, I'd really appreciate you sending them my way.' Most of my business now comes from other customers, not from ads or lead services.

This is a loaded question! haha It really depends where you are at and how much money you have to put in to it. The BEST way to get leads is from referrals. These will always convert better. Draw back is you have to put in a lot of time to build that trust with referral partners. Joining BNI or a le Tip group, chamber of commerce, and putting time to developing relationships will pay off long term.
Personally I'm a huge fan of thumbtack when you are first starting out. You'll have a lot easier time getting jobs off there early on because your prices will be lower. I still get jobs off there now but I get way more price resistance as our labor rates have changes.
Putting time and effort in to optimizing you google business page will pay dividends also. Jobber has a few good podcasts on this or you can ask chat gpt. Once that's optimized, you can advertise on google but you need a little bit of a budget for that.
Whatever you do, I strongly advise to not you Angi or Angi leads. I've had terrible experiences and all the contractors I know have had terrible experiences. There are plenty of other ways to get leads, that one I feel like you're playing with fire.
