Using Facebook to grow your business, what actually worked?

Hey everyone, curious how those of you using Facebook for your business actually built your following. Did you grow it organically, run giveaways, use ads, or some mix of all three? And more importantly, did it actually move the needle for getting jobs?

I'm about to put real money behind Facebook as part of a growth push and want to hear from people who've been in the trenches with it before I commit. What worked, what didn't?

Would be grateful for anyone's thoughts on my FB page if it needs anything

Facebook is great! I use ads from it almost exclusively! You are able to create an ad, put in your max budget, how long, and all the extra options you want. It runs in my own selected audience or city coverage. Granted, as a growing business, I can't afford to put much into paid advertising, but an extra 100$ this week? sure lets run an ad at 10bucks a day for 10 days and boom, you're done! They keep track of how well the ads ran. If you need to change something, maybe a previous ad did better you can! IMO it's a perfect way to help run ads on a budget, or even if you don't have a smaller budget like myself its has so many options. Just take your time, look through the settings, and make sure nothing is on there that you don't want. Make sure you select and you modify the areas/cities you want to promote, and give it a shot! Start small with the money, and when you get the hang of it, go big! It drives traffic to my website, bringing awareness of everything that I could ask for!
