What Happens to Your Business Phone Number If Your Virtual Phone Service Shuts Down?

This is something I never really thought about, but it makes sense. Once customers have your number saved and it is on your website, invoices, Google profile, and marketing materials, losing it could become a major business disruption. I think the biggest thing I would want to confirm with any virtual phone provider is whether the number can be ported out and what happens to the number if the company ever shuts down. Nine years with the same number makes it a business asset at this point.
