Is it worth hiring a photographer to take photos and videos for your home service business?
Just started a real estate photography business in NEPA, looking to add clients...
So this got me thinking as I picked up what I thought I needed in the 3rd quarter of 2025 for the business. Camera gear, was a few bucks, the drone was about $1000, with the RC2 remote, classes and the FAA Part 107 certification before ever getting a client. So far I've logged hours and hours of Udemy.com learning how to go do this type of job only to find this field dominated by real estate agents who honestly love taking pictures themselves and won't pay someone else to do it. That puts me in a bind as that was my main goal. So I created it, going from landscaping, mowing as a small business to an LLC taking pictures with no clients.
At this point I saw the jobber grant thing and decided maybe I need to refocus and look at other options.
For those people just starting out what would you pay for someone to come out and fly before and after your siding gigs, landscaping work, or roofing jobs? Just to get before and after pictures, and maybe videos for your own ads? I want to become a person that can take pictures for anyone and tell their story, be it the guy who puts up siding or the home builder creating a home for someone.
What kind of value does that add to your business having professionally created and edited photos or video of your work to show case who you are as a business. So keep in mind I'm just starting out going from IT work, to photography but so far I love what I'm doing! I can show some of my stock photos -or check out my link to my website I've got a few pics on there that I've taken. I don't think I'm any different then other service based skilled trades out there, you and I are all working providing some kind of service for greenbacks. I guess I'm looking for validation, but at the same time also trying to figure out what someone would pay to have their business shown in a different way using drone services, and photos. Any feedback would be great, and I'm open to constructive criticism since I'm ex army I can take it. :D -Mike
