Hey everyone, Hope everyone's season is going well with lots of jobs and low stress. I run a small landscaping company in Canada that specializes exclusively in sod installation and fence construction. Up to this point, the largest sod project we've completed has been approximately 6,000 sq. ft. We have a solid system for removals, grading, and installations on projects under 10,000 sq. ft. Recently, I've been given the opportunity to quote a 70,000 sq. ft. sod installation project. This would be a significant milestone for my company. Not only because of the revenue potential, but also because successfully completing a project of this size would help us break into a market with much higher barriers to entry. I'm currently researching the most efficient methods for handling a project at this scale, so I can submit a competitive bid while ensuring we can execute it properly if awarded. For those with commercial landscaping experience, particularly large-scale sod installations: What equipment are you using? How many square feet are you typically laying per day? What crew size have you found most efficient for large projects like this one? Do you use forklifts, skid steers with sod rollers or other specialized equipment? What are some common mistakes contractors make when taking on projects this size? Any lessons learned regarding logistics, watering, scheduling, or material deliveries? Would you recommend a power rake to spread soil at an efficient rate? I'd appreciate any insight, advice, or resources you can share. Thanks in advance! Robbie
What are the pros and cons of using commercial electric equipment for a lawn care business?
I am starting a lawn business in south Florida in the next few months. I have been doing research on commercial grade electric lawn equipment and was hoping to get some feedback from anyone that has attempted to do this or is currently running electric. What are the pros and cons that you are seeing and experiencing? I'm open for discussion with weed eaters, blowers, zero turn and stand-up mowers, and even chain saws and pole saws. Has anyone jumped off the deep end and made their buisness full time I want to I just dont have the equipment to run through the winter! Like a dump trailer for clean up, skid steer, stump grinder, or a small mini x. Can anyone help to find resources for used equipment? I'm trying to save up to make this happen!

Established Two Businesses, IT & Pokémon, Pivot to horticulture?
Hi everyone, I’m looking for guidance from people who have successfully started and grown lawn care, gardening, or outdoor service businesses. I already operate two businesses, one focused on IT and AI consultation for local small and scaling businesses, and another in the trading card and collectibles space. Even with those ventures, one of the things that brings me the most peace in life is working with plants and the outdoors. Gardening has always been one of my most relaxing and rewarding hobbies. I genuinely love cloning, grafting, rooting plants, learning how different species grow, and seeing something thrive because of patience and care. I would love to build a manageable outdoor, exterior, lawn care, or gardening service that I can grow responsibly over time. I am also very interested in training to become a Master Gardener so I can better serve my community with real knowledge and long term value, not just basic maintenance. For those of you who have built businesses in this space, what would you recommend for someone starting out? What services are the smartest to begin with? What equipment is essential versus unnecessary at first? How did you price your work, find your first customers, and keep the business manageable as you grew? I am especially interested in building something sustainable, community focused, and well run from the beginning. Any advice, lessons learned, mistakes to avoid, or encouragement would mean a lot. Tldr: have so much inherited and basic equipment as hobbiest, I should mention my entire childhood consisted of 6 am wake ups on weekends and during summer to do yard work and or mulch acres on acres for my dad/grandparents.
