Man, I feel you. Being a fast framer is actually part of the problem. Builders love that you finish early, but they don’t want to pay you to sit around waiting. So they’ll always give the filler work to slower crews who stretch their jobs out.
The real answer is you need multiple builders. Don’t rely on one or two. You gotta be out there meeting new ones every week — go to the supply houses early in the morning, introduce yourself, leave cards with superintendents, whatever it takes.
And yeah, who you know matters more than what you know in this game, at least in the beginning. Keep your quality high and your word solid, and the work will start lining up. But you gotta go hunt it down, it won’t just come to you.
