Has anyone hired a business coach?

I am thinking about hiring a business coach to help push me to the next level. I admittedly am not the best businessman in the world, but I am the best pest controller in my city. No one does what I do, no one notices what I notice, no one finishes jobs to the level I do. I see it everyday when I am hired to fix other companies stupid mistakes.

I want that to be known, and want to grow.

I just don't know the ins and outs of business. Growth, marketing, team building, advertising. I want to learn but also need to be on the road.

I am wondering if this is a problem that a business coach or some sort of consultant can help with? Has anyone been in the situation where you know you have the service that people want and need, but can't seem to get over that hump of being a one-man show?

  • I have 2 Business coaches- The best decision in the world for me and my business. I would not recommend 2 - Its a lot to take on, I have two for different reasons. My 1st coach was amazing for mindset and all things but he is high level and does not break down into the all the little things. My other coach, breaks it down into a roadmap, just follow and execute. Both have weekly 45 minute sessions. My 1st guy is group and an amazing community- Dan Martell with Elite. The 2nd is honestly Grant Cardone and the FRC program. Both have led me to 116% yoy growth, and a frame work to execute to. I ran multi million dollar operations for other for decades, giving birth to you own is a completely different game. My Team is charged up, We are going to decimate our market, our customers love the changes and see the value we offer more than they ever did before. Feel free to connect with me to discuss further. I get nothing out of this other than helping another solopanure get out of that spot!

      Thanks Randy, yes.

https://www.btacademy.com/ check them out. Or reach out to me and I will put you in touch with someone over there.

I think Breakthrough Academy could really help you on the operational side of your business. Basically, all of those business things that none of us know when we start out. Things like building a budget or hiring and tracking your financials. It's also an amazing community of roughly 700 different businesses. We get together a few times a year and work on our businesses together and we also have an online community where we are helping each other daily.

PestFreeCanada You should reach out to me regardless. I know a digital marketing business that helped out another pest company on the West coast of Canada. Now he's helping out Tag Pest Control. Anyways, he could probably be of service to you, I'm sure.

Many consulting organizations help fill knowledge gaps and offer networking like what Jobber is doing (for free right now). Those groups often cost $5-$15k+ annually plus extras. The networking is the best part as you find businesses in those groups that are ahead of you and have answers to your current headache. Also, there is always a business doing something better than you, and the networking helps you discover how you can continue to learn and grow your business.

If you are stuck at a platou and can't get over the help with the connections you have or even through this vast group of business owners, then I would suggest coaching one-on-one or group. Most group coaching is structured around steering you to specifically identify the 1-2 things you need to fix this year and help you iron out a plan to execute with accountability. No golden goose, you still have to do the work.

I know people in "certain path", Breakthrough Academy and Ramsey Solutions and I have participated in two of those three. There is a lot of value there if you take it seriously.

I’ve never personally used an ongoing business coach, so I can’t speak from that exact experience.

But I have had a lot of success getting around other serious business owners, especially in masterminds where people are running companies outside my industry.

That has probably helped me more than I expected.

When you’re only around people in your own trade, everyone tends to think about problems the same way.

When you sit with operators from different industries, you start seeing things differently:

    • how they hire
    • how they price
    • how they follow up with leads
    • how they build systems
    • how they sell
    • how they handle team issues
    • how they think about margins

A good mastermind, especially one with hot seats, can be really useful because you are not just consuming information. You bring a specific problem to the group and let other owners pick it apart. That kind of feedback can expose blind spots fast.

In your case, it sounds like you already know the technical side extremely well. That’s a strong position to be in.

I’d also look for someone who understands home services or at least local service businesses. A lot of generic business advice falls apart when you’re dealing with route work, field employees, phone calls, estimates, emergency requests, and customers who compare you to the cheapest guy in town.

So yes, I do think outside help can be useful.

I’d just make sure you’re paying for tactical feedback and implementation help, not vague encouragement.

For me, the biggest value has come from being around successful operators who can look at my business from a different angle and challenge the way I’m thinking.

  • I have not hired a business coach yet, but I have invested in mentors and educational communities. One thing I have learned is that the right coach can help shorten the learning curve and keep you from making expensive mistakes. The important thing is to keep learning and stay open to feedback.

  • Amazing advice guys. Thank you so much! Lots to look into and think about now.
