  • Hi Josh,  Welcome to the world of lawn care!

I have a few different mowers:

    • Toro 21" Commercial push with blade clutch control (love the ability to have self propel without the blade running. if you know you know)
    • A few Honda 21" Residential push mowers for when I need some helpers
    • Old John Deere JA62 that I use for very distressed overgrown yards where it is unknown what is under the grass.
    • Husqvarna 48" Garden Tractor for a  few commercial properties

    Small Gas tools:

    • Echo PAS Power head with an assortment of attachments from line trimmer running black diamond, edger, power paddle, articulating hedge trimmer, pole saw (one engine with multiple attachments)
    • Stihl Ms250 Chainsaw
    • Ariens 9" walk behind edger
    • A few Echo BP770 Blowers
    • Earthquake rear tine Rototiller
    • BE 3800 psi Power washer
    • Echo battery power blower to cleanup grass clippings....way lighter than throwing on the backpack for quick / light cleanups

    Spring / Fall  Cleanup:

    • Billy goat power rake
    • Billy goat lawn vac
    • Husqvarna aerator

As you get your grove you may buy and sell equipment until you find what works best for you and the properties you work on.  I have found great equipment on market place saving some cash vs new.  Just give the equipment a good look over before committing.  I like to tinker in my spare time.  The 48" Husqvarna tractor was a 20 year old $200 non operative unit.  Took a chance on it that I could get it working.  Just a little TLC got it going , threw on 3 new blades, filters, oil, plugs, battery.($250) Works like a dream now :)

Hey Josh..  for BIG GEAR...  whatever is closest to you that will give you great dealer support.  We have toro and **bleep** in 2 directions in less than 15 minutes.  We rock **bleep** 48" V-Ride II and 36 walk behind with a sulkie.  small gear is all echo 2620 for sticks and one of the blowers (9010) and the other blower is Sthil BR 800.  That's not as powerful and $125 cheaper, and has the most awesome off switch ever.. (Can't leave it off when trying to start....).  I've used Sthil 91r's and they worked great, just heavy.  Trimmer line in the Sthil was .105 black diamond and it would eat fences all day.

If you are going to grow, and are buying new, ask about FLEET discounts.  I'm looking at a Ferris next year, and with the fleet deal, i'll prolly grab a 36" walk behind for dang near free.

But dealer support is where it's at.  if you have a down machine and that's 100% of the biz...can't wait for 3 weeks to get it fixed.  Most times, i'm in and out in a couple of hours.  I've also just swung by and hung out with the dudes at the counter, brought doughnuts...never hurts.

    good luck sir!!
