I will be making the jump next month. Facebook Marketplace and owner to owner sales platforms alike.

Check out HiBid. National auction site. Just be careful you are not bidding on items from canada or there could be an excise tax

Same boat. Some of the equipment you can rent. My issue is the jump & uncertainty. I have found some equipment available to rent such as Dump trailer on Facebook marketplace where it is cheaper to rent for a week for a project then 2 to 3 days that does not put you in a time constraint.

I just made the jump about a month ago! Start small and don’t get ahead of yourself, rent where you’re able to when you do get those larger contracts. But also network network network! Make it so that you can subcontract someone who already has the equipment. I attended a trade show a few weeks ago and also don’t have the mini x to do the earthwork they were wanting, so my go to line was “that sounds like it might be slightly outside of my capabilities right now as I’m building my business, but I know ____ and they do fantastic work, let me put you two in contact” it build the trust with your community so that you’re not accepting jobs you’re not capable of, but you’re still supporting potential clients

Watch your local Auctions for Equipment sales. This time of year there are a ton of Spring auctions. Just go there and look and test equipment before your purchase. Most auctions will let you run to show you the equipment running prior to the auction.
