Hi, my name is John, a U.S. Navy veteran and founder of California Wildfire Mitigation, a Veteran-owned and operated provider of wildfire mitigation, defensible space, vegetation management, and slope mowing services. The business was founded in 2020 and is headquartered in Jackson, California.
California Wildfire Mitigation was created from a personal need to be better prepared. After wildfires threatened my home in 2019 and 2020, I moved into a neighborhood that had been evacuated during the 2015 Butte Fire. I knew then that I needed to do more to educate myself, prepare my family, and help protect my community. I began creating defensible space around my own home and helped my neighbors do the same.
When the Electra Fire forced a weeklong evacuation of my neighborhood in 2022, we were prepared and immediately put our emergency plan into action to keep our family and more than forty animals safe from the wildfire burning toward our home. That stark reminder of the danger of living on the edge of the wilderness renewed my commitment to helping homeowners, businesses, and communities reduce wildfire risk before the next emergency.
Today, California Wildfire Mitigation uses specialized 8x8 slope mowers to clear dense brush, dry grass, and chaparral on steep hillsides, creating defensible space, shaded fuel breaks, and greater peace of mind. As the business grows, I am focused on helping California families protect what matters most: their homes, livelihoods, and each other.
