Where do you find the best workers to hire?

Where have you had luck finding new members for your business?

I have several avenues that I would like to try but I'm wondering who has had good luck and where you've had that luck.

Vocational schools? Facebook job posting? Next Door?

Anyone use Home Depot's hiring through their Pro Network? Looking for the best starting point.

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

  • I’m following this. I’m having a hard time finding a reliable source for professional installers.

Hey! You're not alone in that. Finding reliable installers is one of the most common challenges we hear about. Recruiting expert Rich Camacho (CEO of BlueRecruit) is answering hiring questions in the community this week and this is right up his alley. • The best worker I have ever found is the son of one of my clients. I was chatting with the client and she mentioned her 22 year old son was looking for a job. He ended up coming home while I was there and we started chatting and hit it off immediately. Hired him pretty much on the spot. He was exactly what I was looking for and couldn't be happier.

Keep an eye out for talent, you never know where you're gonna find the right person.

I love this because it is SO true. We found our one guy through a customer that we became friends with. Her son was going through some difficult times dealing with a separation and depression. She asked us if we had anything to just get him out of the house. We did and it turned into a long term arrangement!

I've found people all over. I've gotten great coworkers off Indeed - haven't had quite the success on zip recruiter but that works ok too. I've found some people out at the cabinet store. I think the finding people through day to day interactions can be a little better because you get like a mini interview out of them before getting their resume and wasting time on it.

The main thing you need is you need to make sure your employees are presented well so A players are more attracted to your operation. That means nice uniforms, digital footprint presented well, nice wraps on your trucks. This is the stuff that people want to join. If you don't have that, then you are starting from a little behind the curve and hoping you get lucky weeding through all the people.

One thing I will say, from experience, is don't be afraid of hiring bad people. It's going to happen. Do your due diligence on the front end, make lots of barriers to get to the interview process (make a quiz, make them do multiple interviews, make them submit a video to you saying why they want to work for you, etc) but if someone isn't a good fit, don't keep them around.
