Job Costing

We want to understand our gross margin on a line item basis. I see that when creating a quote, you can use a markup %. I can also see that when viewing a job, you can see the line item cost and price.

First question...is there a setting so that when viewing a jobs line items, you can see the markup you used or the price you entered and the method used?

Second question...when reviewing an invoice in draft mode, the line items with the markup is not viewable. Is it possible to see the cost and price for each line item in invoice?

  • Hi dennistubbs thanks for the question!

You can add markups to each line item that appears on a quote. This internal calculator is only visible to you - your client only sees the marked-up price. A total of the costs and estimated margin are shown at the bottom of the quote to help you set the ideal markup and turn a profit. This estimation is only visible to you when building or editing the quote.

For job costing, line items need to be set up with a unit cost in order to calculate the job profitability. Unit costs can be added to the line item on the quote or job level, or from your products and services list

Job costing does not show up at the Invoice phase, but we would love to learn more about how that would work better for your companies needs. Please reach out to our Success team at 1-888-721-1115 option 1 or support@getjobber.com to share your thoughts!
