Hi there! I own a glass, window, and door company in California, and after going back and forth on this issue for some time, we decided to build credit card processing fees into our pricing. To provide transparency and flexibility, we include an optional line in our quotes that shows a 3% discount for payments made by cash or check. Clients can select this option to reduce their total estimate.
If a client selects the discount but chooses to pay by card (which hasn’t happened yet), we simply remind them that the discount only applies to cash or check payments, and the full amount—including the 3%—will be charged accordingly. We also require deposits on all of our jobs.
