Depends on TWO factors...
1). State Laws. Check those first. Most states mandate how much you can take for a deposit for a project
2). Material Cost. How much are your materials? You'll at least want to cover the cost of your materials upfront. My State Law states I cannot take any more than 1/3 third upfront. However, if the materials cost more than 1/3 I can ask more "upfront". As your business grows, you'll want to start charging more "upfront" to cover the higher cost of overhead.
