What is your "WHY" for running a home service business?

Why do you wake up and do what you do?

Take some time to think deep and hard.

Be as genuine as possible with your answer.

  • Because for most of my life I've worked for somebody else. That also means the jobs I was doing we're not my favorite. It was somebody else's dreams and wants and was just a paycheck for me. So starting my own exterior cleaning and painting service has made it easy, because it's something I enjoy doing. It's more than just a paycheck, it's actually satisfying to be able to help somebody out by improving their property and at the same time get self gratification from the results.  Making money doing it is just a big plus, it makes it real easy to get up and do it again daily.

I'm doing it for my daughter, and I'm doing it for myself — and honestly the two are connected.

Both my parents hated their jobs. Growing up around that shapes you. When I got into the workforce myself, I found I liked the work — I've done electrical, commercial cleaning, moving, and now lawn care — but I didn't like the environment of working inside someone else's plans. Their dreams, my hours. So the deepest layer of my why is simple: I want to create my own outcome and be fully accountable for my success. If it works, that's mine. If it fails, that's mine too. I'd rather carry that weight than hand it to a boss.

The daily version of the why is growth. Running a business solo forces me to push myself, solve problems I've never seen before, and get stronger by overcoming difficulty I can't delegate away. Gaining new skills.  I'm a different person than I was when I started, and I like the direction.

And the long version is my daughter. I want her to grow up watching someone build something — to see with her own eyes that realizing your dreams is an actual option, not a thing people say. My parents couldn't show me that. I can show her.

  • My "why" is helping people building opportunities for themselves. There is something rewarding about seeing hard work turn into real results.

  • I have so many Why but one of my Why. My why is my family. I want to build something that creates stability, leaves a legacy, and gives me the opportunity to help others while creating a better future for my children and grandchildren.

  • I am too damn good at what I do to be making someone else a ton of money and handing me the scraps. That profit and percentages is always just passed on to the customer anyway so they are the ones getting shafted by large corporations setting the prices.

I also love this industry, we do cool things all day and are never sitting on our butts at a computer wasting our lives. We are out in the fresh air solving complex problems and helping people live comfortably.
