As someone who's worked in social for more than a decade and talked to a lot of small business owners about it, my #1 piece of advice is to figure out what kind of content you can make that's 'easy' and not super time intensive. When you first start out every post will take a good amount of time, but working on something for hours or days and then having it fall flat (bc social is so volatile!) will be really demotivating and there's so much risk you'll give up!
Assuming you're making content to reach new customers, I would think of 2-3 post 'types' you can easily make and post 2-3x a week, even 1x a week to start would be a win if you can be consistent. A couple ideas I have as a potential customer of yours:
- Show me behind the scenes: A quick 30-60 second selfie style video explaining things like -
- Wonder what the different coloured wires mean?
- What different voltages mean
- What you shouldn't plug into a regular plug
- What power surges mean for your electronics and how to prevent them
- Remember to ALWAYS start with a hook. The first 2-3 seconds are most important (the sentences above would be hooks you could use to intro each video)
- Before and after photos or progress photos to remind me what I can hire you for in case I have something lingering on my to-do list: Carousels (multiple photos you swipe through) are being pushed on Instagram and TikTok right now, so you could show the start of a job, a photo during, a photo at the end. And put some simple text on the photo explaining what I'm seeing.
- Customer testimonials/reviews laid on top of a photo (photo could be of a worksite, an overhead shot of your tools, etc.)
Good luck and have fun!

This was so so helpful!! Thank you so much for this valuable information. Who would’ve thought 5+ years ago we’d need to be content creators too!!
