Do you have a Instagram Business account? How are you utilizing tools built within it?

I started my Instagram business account and finally have started posting. I set it up as a business account so I am wondering a few things from this community...

Is there features in the business account that you are using that some people could miss? Something to really get your name out there?

What types of posts are you creating? What do you find really makes an impact?

I want to post some interesting pest related content, crazy situations, heavy infestations, tips and tricks for homeowners...but I am wondering if any has any tips for me, that have worked for them?

Feel free to follow along at pestfreecanada

  • We've been using IG for about a year now for our business. Some tricks we've learned are:

    1. Posting less often but with excellent/relevant content tends to gain more traction.
    2. Videos/reels always get more views and shares than photos or photo collages. It's worth the time to build reels, formatted for the phone in the vertical layout, with catchy songs (especially if you can time the song/rhythm to the video).
    3. Anything with humor or gets a laugh always seems to be the most popular.

Good luck with your new account!

Congrats on setting up your IG business account!

A lot of home service businesses are starting to use Instagram more intentionally, so you’re heading in the right direction.

For pest control specifically, content like before-and-after videos, clips from the job site, and homeowner tips tend to perform well because they show real work and help build trust with potential customers. If you’re looking for more viral-style content, showing heavy infestations or unusual situations you come across on jobs can definitely grab attention. I would use a mix of both!

Social media is really about constant experimentation. After your first few weeks of posting (around 2–3 weeks), you’ll start to have some stats to compare and can see which types of content are getting the most engagement.

To make things easier on yourself, it can also help to set a content creation schedule. For example, you might take photos and film videos during the workweek, then use some time on the weekend to turn that footage into posts. IG also lets you schedule posts in advance, so you could plan out content for the next week or two. That way, you give yourself time in between to capture and create more content without feeling rushed! All the best!

  • Amazing on starting your social media stuff.  We find that the most engaging are about our team and some before and afters.

  • Yessss!, and one of the biggest things we’d recommend is really using the analytics inside the business account. A lot of people post but don’t study what actually creates saves, shares, profile visits, and inquiries.

From what we’ve seen, Reels are usually best for reach/discovery, especially if you have visually crazy or shock value content like infestations, before-and-afters, or quick “here’s what we found” clips. Stories are great for staying active daily, showing behind-the-scenes jobs, polls on the reel!!, and quick homeowner tips. Highlights are also super underrated — they help new visitors instantly understand your services, results, reviews, and service areas.

Your content ideas are strong already btw…Id also suggest leaning into:

    • crazy situations/heavy infestations
    • homeowner tips and prevention
    • before/after results
    • common signs of pest issues
    • myth-busting posts
    • seasonal pest warnings

The posts that usually make the biggest impact are either surprising or useful. If someone learns something that could save them money or protect their home, they’re much more likely to share or save your account.

Also, don’t just post the problem please share the solution that your business provides… That helps build trust and positions you as the expert :D

  • These are great tips! My business is a little worried about having an IG account since its for photos/vids. FB has been an easier avenue for us but I want to try some of these tips may be helpful to create a presence in IG.
