Lead Generator vrs Digital marketing and trying to market yourself

So i have a question about marketing and lead generating systems. im new to jobber and i like the platform because im able to invoice and schedule on the fly while staying out in the field instead of having to be at home to run my back end of my business. ive been open since october of 2025 and currently service 2 companies atm.  now my question is this is it worth it to use a lead generating system for my google business profile?  also is it worth it to just create my own for my industry?

also marketing i understanding keeping the marketing capped at 6% so it doesnt eat my profits.  should i invest in digital marketing door knocking service. lead generator service.  my goal is to have 5-6 companies feed me volume cause i solve a pain point for companies in my area and keep them flowing and on schedule.  im very new to marketing

  • i do i have nextdoor facebook google business page and website. so far ive been building my backend my self.  ive also been looking at createing my own lead generator to help create leads for myself.  rather then purchase leads.  im just trying to get an idea of how i can target certain marketing campaigns when im ready to pull scaleing in overdrive and accelerate my workflow.   theres so many marketing things out there.  that i dont like wasting money.   i wanna spend money and stay strategic and firm and make sure it works for me

My suggestion is to do a lot of the stuff yourself early on if you can. It's easy to throw money at a problem but I feel like the results rarely come. The thing is you are going to have to do all the things in marketing for it to work. It's a marketing eco system. Techs putting out door hangers, yard signs, building good SEO, building out your GMB page, have a decent website, use thumbtack etc etc. Start with the free stuff like social media then work your way in to other things. I would dissuade you from using consultants or marketing companies early on. I did that and it was a waste. I invested in programs that taught me how to market so I can do it myself or better judge those who are doing it for me. Reach out to me directly if you want more info on those programs.

  • Firstly, congrats on starting your own company! I started mine in Oct 2025 also. It sounds like you are also off to a good start.

I am just starting my journey into using a digital marketing company as I knew absolutely nothing about Google and Meta ads. I was actually connected to a firm via another Jobber user judithvirag and so far the team has been amazing. I have not gone "live" with my campaign as of yet because there is some building that needs to be done on the back end. I feel like a good marketing firm knows how the world is looking for your service and helps out you in front of as many eyes as they can.

The team I am working with gave me options and I sort of customized my campaign to what I was comfortable with. For example, they wanted me to advertise on Google and Meta. Meaning due to my budget, I would have to manage my Instagram and Facebook accounts and that was something I was not prepared to do yet. I am an owner/operator and was too busy on the road to take and post photos. So I decided to put more money into Google and make that look as good as possible.

My point is to take a look at your time, knowledge and income and decide if you know enough and are free enough to manage a Google ads account yourself (or other lead generator). If not, take a look around for some marketing companies and let them push leads your way.

You can send me a private message and I can connect you with the team I use also.
