Thanks. It is a niche. I'm hoping the hive mind may have some ideas I hadn't thought of. The problem we run into with average or flat rate pricing on these is the competition. Sure I could offer them all for 200 but then all the people needing the 100 key will go to a competitor and all the people needing the 300 key will come to me instead of them and I just end up making low margin, hard work keys. In our industry, the norm is for people to call several locksmith and the dealership to get prices so it gets very competitive. Add in that there is no licensing, people pushing garbage parts for cheap on facebook, backyard mechanics, and customers not having a budget for a new key, and it gets very price competitive.
I wanted to try maybe doing the labor portion of the job as a flat rate so the only variable cost is the hardware but I would still need a way to deal with the hardware.
