Word of mouth so you have to tell your friends or family to support you by telling other people that you have a new job and you're ready to work and when you do good work it gets noticed. So word of mouth is the best I've found. Haven't I have to advertise or anything in 6 years? Good luck to you

I also find that word of mouth is the best, especially in small communities. Social media is also a good place for people to see your work.

From what I've seen, the most consistent jobs tend to come from relationships rather than job boards.
Realtors, property managers, builders, architects, designers, and past clients can become strong referral sources over time. One solid relationship can often generate more work than dozens of cold leads.
I'd also make sure your Google Business Profile, reviews, and project photos are dialed in. A lot of homeowners start their search online, and trust plays a huge role in who gets the call.
The contractors I see growing steadily usually have a mix of referrals, repeat business, and a strong local online presence rather than relying on a single source of leads.

I have found that joining a local networking organization helps with referrals. It like having each member be a walking billboard advertising for you when someone has a need for your service. Most also only allow one company per category, so you have exclusive rights to that "construction chair".

I put Ms. Fixit Construction with my number on the back window of my work truck! It's cheap and it helps, lol, most are impressed that I'm a woman contractor!

Networking and groups is the common theme above and I agree. Being apart of multiple large contracting groups has allowed me to make contacts across the country in my field. However, a more direct approach would be to look up contracting companies online and determine if they are worth calling and walking in to ask for an interview.
