I’d take a basic accounting or bookkeeping course so you understand the fundamentals, but I wouldn’t try to become the expert.
As a business owner, your job is to run and grow the business, not master taxes and accounting.
Hire a professional for anything beyond the basics. A good bookkeeper and CPA will save you way more money (and stress) than they cost.
What worked for me:
- Learn just enough to read your numbers and make decisions
- Have a pro handle bookkeeping, taxes, and compliance
- Stay in your lane and focus on revenue-generating work
Too many owners get stuck trying to DIY everything and end up making expensive mistakes.
Know the basics, but don’t confuse that with needing to do it all yourself.
