At first, I would recommend using all the free marketing services available. For example, get your profile on Yelp, Angie, google business profile, instagram and Facebook
These platforms help a lot, especially to make yourself known and let your community know about your business.
do you feel like places like yelp or Angie's convert well? I'm looking at marketing as well and am wondering if should try to master something like google business before trying to add other platforms.

Could also take that money and instead of give it to yelp or angies list and make sure your SEO is solid.
I would agree 100%. Google is the way to go, and I never did any ad spend with our business withi Yelp or Angie's list as it didn't convert well in our area (SW FL). Yelp is just disgruntled people and I found that Angie's list is full of tire kickers. People who are really ready to hire a service use Google in my experience!
