Commission Based Pay?

Hey guys! Wondering if anyone here has experience with paying employees commission instead of hourly. How is that working for you guys? How do you have it set up to where you’re making the profit you need and the employee is happy and motivated to work hard? At what percentage do you pay? Thanks!

  • We've found that a hybrid approach works best for our business. Our senior technician is paid on commission and earns a percentage of the projects he completes. Because of his experience, efficiency, and ability to work independently, this model rewards performance while giving him flexibility and earning potential. For technicians who are still developing their skills, we use an hourly pay structure. This allows us to invest in training and mentorship without creating pressure to prioritize speed over quality. In furniture restoration, every project is different, so we've found that compensation should reflect both skill level and responsibility. As technicians grow and take on more ownership, performance-based compensation can become a great incentive.
