- Cross-train employees. The more roles each team member can cover, the less one absence disrupts operations.
- Schedule vacations early. First-come, first-served planning helps avoid multiple key people being out at the same time.
- Document your processes. A simple checklist can help someone step into a role temporarily.

Simple and to the point! My biggest challenge is enforcing a "First come first served" basis on time off requests. I don't offer PTO and if someone calls out or needs a day off due to something outside of our control we just deal with the lack of coverage the best we can.
