Looking for genuine feedback

I've been building a hiring tool for home service businesses, and I'd love some honest feedback.

The idea is simple.

Instead of paying job boards every time you need to hire, what if you owned your own hiring pipeline?

You enter your job title, pay, schedule, location, and a few screening questions. In seconds, the software creates a branded social media hiring post with a QR code.

You can share that QR code anywhere—Facebook groups, Instagram, your storefront, a vehicle magnet, posters, hiring cards, or anywhere potential employees might see it.

When someone scans the QR code, they answer your custom screening questions, enter their availability, and apply directly to your job. As soon as they apply, you receive a text notification.

The hiring post is completely free to create and download.

You only pay if you find an applicant you actually want to contact. After that, it's $99/month to keep your hiring page active and unlock interview scheduling, digital onboarding, document collection, applicant management, employee tracking, and the ability to save great candidates for future openings instead of starting from scratch every time you're hiring.

My goal is to help small businesses rely less on job boards and build a hiring system they actually own.

Would you pay $99 per month if this consistently helped you find quality employees?

What am I missing? I'd really appreciate honest feedback, even if you think it's a terrible idea.

  • Awesome concept! As a fellow small business owner, I love the focus on owning your own recruitment pipeline instead of feeding thousands to job boards.

Here’s my honest take on the model:

    What Hits the Mark

    • The QR-to-Text Pipeline: Putting a QR code on truck wraps, yard signs, or local flyers is a huge untapped channel for trade businesses. Getting an immediate text notification is key—in the trades, if you don't call a good tech back within 30 minutes, someone else hired them.
    • Low Friction: Free-to-create makes it a total no-brainer to test out.

    The Main Hurdles

    1. Traffic vs. Software: Job boards sell eyeballs; your tool provides the container. If an owner puts a QR code on one truck and gets no applicants, they’ll blame the tool rather than their lack of reach. You’ll need to heavily educate users on how to promote their own links.
    2. Seasonal Churn at $99/mo: Most small service operators don’t hire 12 months a year—we hire in spring rushes or when someone suddenly quits. Paying $1,200/yr during quiet months is a tough pill. A pay-per-unlocked-applicant model or a lower "holding" rate ($15–$20/mo) to keep the candidate database active in the off-season might retain more users long-term.

Features That Would Make It a Must-Have

    • Instant Auto-Pre-Screening via SMS: Interview no-shows are rampant. An automated text right after they apply ("Do you have a valid driver's license and reliable transport? Reply YES to confirm") saves hours of wasted time.
    • Ready-to-Print Templates: Don't just generate a raw QR code—give us a 1-click printable PDF for standard 12x18 yard signs, vehicle magnets, or rack cards.

If it consistently brought in solid local applicants, yes, $99/mo is a drop in the bucket compared to an empty truck. Rooting for you as you build this out!

  • thanks again Travis , i completely agree with educating users, 50 people have downloaded their codes but nobody has shared them, i give users free download files for yard signs, vehicle magnets, and hiring cards, but im realizing a lot of business owners need to be guided every single step of the process or they WILL FORGET. My new strategy will be to post in facebook groups asking if anyone is willing to try my tool for free since the easiest and fastest way to test their code is by sharing it online, thanks for the advice and well wishes!
