Short videos for getting more leads – what is working for you?

Curious how other home service businesses are using short videos for marketing. Before/after clips, quick walkthroughs of a finished job, or a 15-second "meet the crew" video seem to work well on Facebook, Instagram and Google Business Profile, but making them consistently takes time.

Some owners are starting to use AI video tools to turn job-site photos and a short script into a video, for example Nereo. I think that can help with volume, but real footage of your own team probably still builds more trust with homeowners.

What has worked for you: phone videos, hiring someone, or AI tools? And which platform actually brings in quote requests?

  • I think a mix of both could work well. Real photos and videos of the actual work help build trust because customers can see what you really do. AI could then help turn that content into more consistent posts without taking up as much time. I would also focus on Google Business Profile since people searching there are usually already looking for a service. I’m curious to see which platform others are getting the most actual quote requests from.

It's hard to beat selfie style talking head videos because of how raw and authentic they appear, but it does take practice to become good at them. I would also consider hiring a videographer for a day to film b roll or "day in the life" type of content that you can repurpose on your website and/or social media.

We’ve had the best luck with real footage, honestly. A lot of ours is just phone video — before/afters, satisfying cleaning clips, team moments, or me talking to the camera. Some of the content we’ve put the least production into has gotten the most traction. 😂

We do professional brand shoots too, but I think those serve a different purpose. The polished stuff helps establish the brand, while the casual short-form content makes people feel like they actually know the company and the people behind it.

I’ve played with AI quite a bit in other areas of the business, but for social video I’m still hesitant to replace actual team/job footage with AI-generated content. For a home service company, trust is such a huge part of the sale.

Facebook and Instagram have probably been our strongest for visibility and engagement. The harder part is accurately attributing a quote request to one specific Reel when someone may have watched us for months before finally reaching out.
