Travis covered the text-back side well. One thing I'd add from running phones for a trade shop: text-back catches the people who hang up, but a chunk of callers never read the text and just dial the next guy. So I'd treat it as layer one, not the whole fix. What's worked better for us when the admin is tied up: (1) Roll-over, not voicemail. If her line is busy, the second call should go somewhere that actually answers (backup person, service, or an AI line) instead of ringing out. (2) Capture the same 4 things every time: name, address, what's wrong, how urgent. If the overflow can't get those into your job software, your admin ends up re-calling everyone anyway. (3) Decide your after-hours rule up front: emergency gets the on-call tech, everything else gets booked for the morning. Ambiguity is where leads die. (4) Spot-check a week of overflow calls. Whatever you pick, listen to a few and you'll know fast if it sounds like your company or a call center. We ended up using an AI answering line for overflow and after hours since it picks up instantly and drops the info straight in. Happy to share how we set the rules if useful: https://firstdeploy.ai
