Should every customer get the same level of service?

I think every customer deserves respect, clear communication, and the service they paid for.

But I’m not sure every customer should get the exact same experience.

A weekly residential client, a low-frequency client, a high-maintenance client, and a large commercial account may all need different levels of communication, response time, and support.

That doesn’t mean you treat people poorly. It means the service model has to make sense.

For example, a premium commercial account may need more reporting, faster responses, clearer documentation, and a tighter communication process.

A low-frequency customer may get the service they chose, but they probably shouldn’t expect the same outcome as someone paying for weekly maintenance.

A high-maintenance customer who creates constant admin work, special requests, and exceptions may need clearer boundaries or a different price.

This is where I think service tiers can help.

  • The customer knows what they’re buying.
  • The business knows what it’s responsible for.
  • The team isn’t stuck trying to deliver premium expectations on a bare-minimum plan.

For us, I don’t want the quality of work to drop based on the customer.

But I do think access, response time, reporting, frequency, flexibility, and account management can change depending on the service level.

Do all of your customers get the same experience, or do you separate service levels by pricing, frequency, or account type?

I agree with this. Every customer deserves the same respect, professionalism, and quality of work, but that does not mean every customer needs the exact same experience.

We actually just introduced concierge packages that give clients more of a VIP experience with extra perks, flexibility, and attention. It gives customers the option to pay for that higher level of service instead of us trying to provide it to everyone at the same price.

For us, it is really about consistent quality with different levels of access and support.

I agree that the quality of the work should never change, but the level of service can. Clear service tiers help set expectations from the beginning and make sure customers get the value they’re paying for. It also gives the business a way to grow without promising premium service to everyone at the same price
