For me, it was knocking on a neighbor's door and offering to do the job at a massive discount just to get my first dramatic before-and-after photo.
I didn't have a portfolio or a big reputation yet, so I needed undeniable visual proof. Once I finished that first job, I took those photos, walked right down the rest of the street, and showed the neighbors exactly what I could do. Seeing the immediate, physical results on a property they pass every single day turned cold leads into paying clients faster than any ad ever could.
If you're trying to get traction, do a job cheap or free just to get those photos, and then use that visual proof to hunt down your next five clients.
