Who in your company could replace you and what would you need to teach them today?

I have been out of daily operations for almost 2 years now. However, the scale strategy continues to rest solely on me. I have a leadership team of five people (ops, HR, office, controller, and field supervisor). At this stage, I would not be confident leaving any of them responsible for scale in my absence. They fully understand the business, but don't quite understand the growth strategy. Thoughts?

All great insights! I’ve been out of daily ops for about two years now, and have three managers running it. I build out the systems and they execute, but wondering if they’re able to identify issues and build the solutions prior to them getting to me!

  • No one at the moment. My lead employee would be my first go to, but they already have enough on their plate with personal matters.

As the owner, I can't see myself giving all my responsibilities to someone else, at least not yet. If the opportunity comes where someone would like to learn and shows they are absolute in learning the ins and outs of the operations, I would gladly take my time to teach them the ropes.

I believe that time will come. For now though, I like to handle the bulk of it.

  • What a great question to make people think. Redundancy in business is what keeps the wheel rolling if something unexpected were to happen.

  • If and when my company can relaunch, I would select my husband to run my position as he is the one that helped me learn the trade. He also has excellent people skills.

It feels like you have a good team? If they don't understand your growth strategy, teach them and show them what you want. No one will be able to meet your expectations if you don't showcase them! Most people can learn and grow, but finding those who want to can be hard!

  • Give someone the opportunity to grow and learn that has shown high potential. Throw in a reward for your gratitude of their dedication.

also can't really advise as i'm not big enough, but I hired an ops manager this year. its been a huge relief. i was commited to my basement office for years stuck at the computer desk in the cold. my biggest recommendation is to hire people that can take work away from you. its not worth losing your sanity and family over. others can help you with your business even if you think that you can't ever step away.

Right now nobody, however we are working on building those systems to start scaling now. Great topic!
