Home Services Assessment Fee

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for advice on how to clearly and professionally communicate to potential clients that I charge an onsite assessment fee before moving forward with an assessment scheduling.

For those of you who charge a similar fee, how do you usually bring it up in conversation? Do you include it in your Jobber quote or send it separately? Are there any tips on wording or timing that can help set the right expectations without scaring off potential leads?

I appreciate any insights; thank you in advance!

  • Hi there! What I say is, "I have two types of consultations. One can be done over the phone, with videos, and this is free. For in-person consultations, I charge $100, it typically lasts 30 mins to an hour, and if you end up working with us, I just apply that consultation fee towards your first invoice."

I used to do free consultations and ended up wasting a lot of time/money. Now, even if the client doesn't end up booking with us, at least I got paid a little for my time. Hope that helps!

  • We offer 2 options like another comment had said. #1 in person consult we charge $35 fee gives them 30-45 min of our time, written quote within 24 hrs. #2- email consult for free we require several photos/videos and multiple questions answered. Our quote is an estimate in that case and give them an hourly rate if we go over set # hours but will get approval first (I am a cleaning business)

  • I've had a client do the same with their landscape design business. They still did free consults simple jobs but the design consultation for more complex landscaping was $149 and it included a written plan drawn to scale with one revision.  Similary, an irrigation company I worked with charged a $75 service fee to come out and take a look at the sprinkler system.  That included the first 30 minutes on site and then the tech would create a repair estimate right there on the spot.
