Are you hiring for hands, or for long-term leadership?

Ever since we created a career ladder/org chart, we ask quarterly via survey how happy our team is. The majority of ours repeatedly state they wish to grow with the company and make it a career. However, our culture is extremely quiet. Thoughts?

Yes! Residential and commercial (and we just launched a pet care sub-brand last year!)

That is not necessarily a bad thing. Some teams are naturally quieter and more focused, especially in skilled trades. What matters more is whether people feel respected, supported, and see a path forward. If your team says they want to grow with the company and make it a career, that is a strong sign you are doing something right. A clear career ladder and checking in quarterly already shows you care about their future. Culture does not always have to be loud to be healthy. Sometimes a steady, respectful environment where people know their role and feel valued is exactly what keeps good people around.

It's all about this subject. One thing I'm working on right now is making a path forward for our guys. Lining out what entry level looks like, what the next steps are, what the pay is for those, and how to achieve them. Then it makes their progress objective. I'm in a coaching program and am going to start on this document this week. It clearly lays it out so you don't have to think about it down the road.
