Celebrated one of our top carpenters today by getting him one of the best hammers on the market. It's a small gesture that cost 500$ but it seems to have meant a lot to him.

I am right inline with what you did. I like the idea of smaller gifts throughout the year though. A small tool pouch here, new gloves there, gift cards, new bits for the driver... That Stiletto is so awesome though and you're amazing for doing that. It shows the employee and the rest of the crew you care.

Dang those are cool!! That's a great idea. I need to implement something like that. For xmas last year I got everyone super nice branded jackets. I felt good about it at the time but a couple people ended up leaving the company a month or two later and those jackets were like $200. It's not the money but the fact they probably won't use it because it's branded and they don't work here any more. I like the idea of giving them something like that hammer though. Every time they use it, they'll know you appreciate them.
WOW, you're not gonna believe it but same thing happened for us hahaha. We got custom Carhartt jackets for the crew as the Xmas gift, took a nice pic, posted it on IG and all... one guy moved back to Mexico with it, the other stayed in the city but left the crew. We still like the idea of jackets for the crew, but will go much cheaper in the future unless it's for team leads 😂
I didn't even consider the longevity of the hammer though, that's a great point. I remember the story behind most of my hand tools.
We do a lot of appreciation gifts. A coffee, quarterly team building event - one is coming up is Puppy Yoga and brunch after. We also give $25 grocery card at Thanksgiving.
Puppy yoga sounds awesome. The Thanksgiving contribution is a nice touch, I like the concept of a practical gift card at a strategic time! Makes it a bit more meaningful. Thanks!
