Should I hire employees or use 1099 subcontractors for better quality?

JMcLutes​ - We read through resumes and sift through a few that we like. And then, we interview guys on the phone. If we like them, we have them join us for a day on the job (two different job sites) as a helper. We pay them cash. If we like them, we then run them through a background check. We use checkr.com. And then we go from there. We are NEW to this process, but it's worked well so far.
