I respect you for getting out there and doing the work. Most people never even start, so you're already ahead. But here's the truth: Flyers and networking alone won't cut it in today's market. Homeowners aren't picking up flyers anymore. They're grabbing their phones and searching "gutter installation near me." If you're not showing up there, you're invisible.
A few things I'd advise you to focus on right now:
- Google Business Profile: Set it up if you haven't. Add photos from your past jobs. This is your number one free lead source, period.
- Ask for reviews: Go back to every customer since March and ask for a Google review. Even 5 reviews can put you ahead of guys who've been in business for years.
- Facebook and Nextdoor: Join local community groups. Post your work, show before and afters, and let the community start tagging you when someone needs gutters.
- Follow up with past customers: Storm season is here. A simple "hey, want me to swing by for a quick inspection?" message can turn one old job into three new referrals.
- Build relationships with roofers: Don't just wait to meet them at events. DM them, show up at their office, leave a card. They're already on the roof, seeing gutter problems every day. That relationship will pay off for years.
The slow patch you're in is exactly where most people quit. Push through it, and you'll be standing while everyone else folds.
You've got the right mindset. Now just get yourself in front of the right people online.
Just in case you need any further help implementing some of these things, I’m available to help out. My DM is always open!
