New Business Owner - best way to get first clients - build trust

Hi All,

I have just launched my Estate Management business after 20 years of working with individual clients. I’m in the SF Bay Area with lots of potential to build the business. I’ve noticed many families now, would rather have a service than be responsible for payroll and hiring staff. The only challenge I’m facing now is.. how to build my clientele. Working in private homes takes so much trust, how do I relay this information and how can I get the clients to trust me immediately. Ultimately to build the business.

Does anyone have any ideas?

thank you in advance!

I would honestly start listing to the Waste No Day podcast. They have a really good way of building trust through your "presentation" to the client. In short, the client should be talking a lot more than you, you need to be asking a lot of questions, and should only be speaking in to their pain points. Listen to a bunch of that podcast's episodes and you will find your voice.

I'd also recommend finding someone you can role play with. Work on your sales presentation till it's muscle memory. It just flows well. It's definitely not fun to ask someone to do this, even less fun to do it yourself but it will benefit you long term.

    Congratulations on launching your business!

One thing I'd highlight is that you're not really starting from scratch — You have 20 years of experience working with private clients. That's a huge trust asset.

In estate management, people buy trust before they buy the service. I'd focus on making that trust visible through testimonials, references, client success stories, and a clear explanation of your experience and processes.

I'd also build relationships with estate attorneys, wealth managers, realtors, and family offices. Trusted referrals often outperform traditional advertising in this space.

You already have the credibility. The key now is making it visible to people who don't know you yet.
