How do you stay motivated as an entrepreneur when facing constant rejection?

I'm new to the Jobber community, but I've been using Jobber to help run my small business, RNM HEAT. I repair propane patio heaters, fire pits, fireplaces, and BBQ grills, as well as provide BBQ deep cleaning services. Like many entrepreneurs, I've faced my share of rejection, from customer leads that didn't work out to credit applications and SBA loans that were denied. It can be discouraging at times, but what keeps me going is my faith in Jesus Christ. I believe every closed door isn't the end of the story, and that God can open the right door at the right time. My family is also a huge source of motivation. Their support, encouragement, and belief in me help keep me moving forward, especially during the difficult seasons. I also genuinely enjoy serving others. Helping customers restore, repair, and enjoy their outdoor spaces is something I love doing and it reminds me why I started. I work a full-time job while growing my business, so it isn't always easy, but faith, family, persistence, and a desire to help people keep me motivated every day.

For me, it starts with remembering my why, my purpose and the impact my services have on others.

I also stay motivated through prayer and faith. Rejection is never easy, but I've learned to look for the lesson in every "no" so I can improve, pivot, or approach things differently next time.

One mindset shift that has helped me tremendously is remembering that sometimes rejection is protection. Not every opportunity is meant for us, and sometimes a closed door is redirecting us toward a better one.

I also lean on affirmations and the stories of successful entrepreneurs who faced countless rejections before receiving the one "yes" that changed everything. Sometimes all it takes is one person, one client, one opportunity, or one supporter who believes in your vision.

Hello Powerhouse, for me, what keeps me motivated is knowing that no matter what happens today, I'll be in a better place one year from now, five years from now, and ten years from now as long as I keep moving forward.

I believe everything I go through—the wins, the failures, and the rejection—is building my character and teaching me something valuable. Even when I fail, I never really lose because I walk away with experience and knowledge that helps me do better the next time.

I've also learned that every problem has a solution and every rejection has another path around it. I don't see obstacles as dead ends. I see them as puzzles waiting to be solved. Honestly, one of the most exciting parts of being an entrepreneur is figuring out something I've never done before. There's a certain satisfaction that comes from facing a challenge head-on, learning what it takes, and coming out the other side stronger and more capable than before.

That's why rejection doesn't bother me nearly as much as it used to. I know it's just part of the journey, and every obstacle I overcome makes me stronger, wiser, and more prepared for whatever comes next.

We have a service based business in the residential sector providing painting and window cleaning in Brevard County. When it comes to rejection, we look at it as a blessing. We know the kind of quality service we provide and how we are willing to go to great lengths to ensure customer satisfaction. So if we aren’t hired after giving an estimate, we view as not the right fit for that time and look ahead to the next opportunity. 

Hello 👋 Powerhouse It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m fairly new to the Jobber Community. I currently run my own ATM solutions company. & rejection is one of the key factors that drives me even more.

As an entrepreneur, I've learned that rejection is part of the journey. There have been times when I've put a lot of effort into an idea, a pitch, or a business opportunity, only to hear "no." Early on, those rejections were discouraging, but over time I realized they weren't setbacks—they were lessons.

I like to always think about where I was last year and how far ive progressed in comparison. That always gets me up and ready to keep pushing for more!

A large part of my motivation is derived from wanting to support my wife and son. After that, I am highly motivated by happy customers when I am able to successfully fix an issue for them. To see the satisfaction when something that has needed to be done for years is finally fixed, is so rewarding. There are bad customers in the handyman business, but so many are grateful and appreciative! They keep me going!

I think staying motivated starts with having a strong “why.”

As entrepreneurs, we all face days when the pressure feels overwhelming. There are mornings when getting out of bed is tough because your mind is already filled with challenges, responsibilities, and everything that needs to get done.

What I’ve learned is that motivation is temporary. It’s not always going to be there. The days you feel inspired are easy, but entrepreneurship is really built on discipline, consistency, and having a purpose that’s bigger than how you feel in the moment.

When things get difficult, I remind myself why I started in the first place. For me, it’s about building something meaningful, creating opportunities, serving my community, and creating a better future for myself and my family.

That “why” keeps me moving forward when motivation fades.

The journey isn’t easy, but if your reason is strong enough, you’ll keep showing up even on the days when you don’t feel like it.

I am new on here so here and I have been using Jobber for about 2 1/2 months. 

For me, rejection has never been easy, but I’ve learned not to take it personally. Every “no” gets me one step closer to the right “yes.”

When I started Wagner HVAC, my motivation was providing for my family. As we grew and started hiring employees, that motivation shifted. Now I have people depending on this company to help provide for their families too, and that keeps me pushing forward even when things don’t go my way.

The biggest challenge has been balancing family and business, but I’ve been blessed with an incredibly supportive wife. She encouraged me when I doubted myself, helped with finances, supported me through stressful days, and believed in me before the business was successful.

What keeps me motivated through rejection is remembering how far we’ve come. What started as an idea became a licensed company with vehicles and employees in less than two weeks. The moment it felt real was seeing our wrapped truck driving down the road.

My advice to anyone facing rejection: don’t let someone else’s opinion stop you. Most people spend years thinking about starting a business and never take the first step. Stop thinking about it and just do it. Keep moving forward, learn from every setback, and trust the process.

There's a really good book called "The Dip" that talks about recognizing where you are in the cycle of motivation. I find that if I can remove feeling out of the equation, it's easier for me to see what the next step is and actually move forward. Basically when we start everything, we are super gung ho and will spend all our time and energy on something. Then that motivation goes away as you start to hit barriers. Once you break through that barrier your motivations goes up again and you're reenergized. This is a cycle that continues forever so it's a skill to break through those low periods. A lot of it has to do with knowing yourself. Like if you have low motivation, you're not going to have the energy to do something you don't like (like inputting financial numbers in a spreadsheet) so maybe the move is to schedule that during a time where you are more fresh. Instead, use that time to do something a little more fun like making a social media post. This strategy helps me a lot, and where I can I try to delegate the things that really suck the life out of me. haha But either way, recognizing where you are in the cycle can help you take a measured step forward.
