We increase our prices 3% when quoting repairs. We also tell the customers that we offer a 3% discount for cash or check payment. Not debit cards.
When the tech uses the app to close out the job and generate an invoice, he adds the 3% discount using the “DISCOUNT” line in the phone app, which is after subtotal and before sales tax.
for a written quote, we add a text line item advising that there is a 3% discount for cash or check.
So far, no problems; we started doing this in December.
I went with discounts instead of surcharges because it’s easier for the book keeping. At least, it seems like it should be.
