Mid-season bonus after the first spring (approximately 1st week of July) based on hours worked, company profitability and client satisfaction. I write a personal letter mentioning 1 or 2 specific accomplishments or work habits that I appreciate about that specific employee.

  • Just a thought, I would work everything into your compensation slowly rather than all at once. Make sure each thing makes sense and you can sustain it. Some things you may consider introducing as temporary, put an end date on it so you can decide if you will continue or not.

These things have worked for me (commercial and residential cleaning):

Annual Christmas party with cash bonus

    Annual staff BBQ

    Paid mileage

Daily allowance to reimburse for laundry

Hourly performance bonus (0.50/hr) for staff that arrive on time, receive no complaints, complete equipment and vehicle inspections.

carrot versus stick approach for on-time arrivals is a good one.

Currently they get a week off paid between Christmas and New Year.

One free pair of work boots

Random bonus we I see fit

  • We just started shutting down last year between Christmas and New Years and pay every employee to take the week off. If employees have been on board more than 1 year they receive additional week off.

We pay 1/2 of employee medical insurance and offer supplemental insurance such as eye and dental. Key to hiring committed long term employees that will not jump ship every time someone offers them $1 more per hour.

When I will have employees I would probably do Christmas and New years off with pay.

Aldo would like to pay bonuses for performance, since I think this is crucial. As a worker myself I know how nice is to hear praise from the management. Just shows that they care for you and they appreciate you.

Would love to do some kind of team building hang out where we would have couple of days off with the whole team and their families. Just to unwind, talk future plans.

I want people that work for me to be part of the team and the company. If the company is successful, then all of us should be compensated properly.

  • Our company offers 1-4 weeks of vacation time (the amount is based on how long an employee has been with the company), a week of sick pay, paid holidays, quarterly bonuses, 3% IRA match, and they cover 70-100% of insurance premiums.

They also provide a tool/clothing allowance.
