One thing to consider also is understanding your numbers and acknowledging that, yes it is expensive! For us as a remodeler, basically every phone call is saying something about us being expensive. There's three approaches I take, sometimes I end up doing all three.
- Ask if they want to reduce the scope. This is the lowest hanging fruit. Usually I try to have a base option that is the lowest cost way to get a project done then everything else is an "add on" on top of that. Jobber's quote system is objectively effective in this messaging.
- Talk to them about the different type of people you can hire. For me this sounds like - Well you can always find someone cheaper. Thing is my company does most things in house so we can ensure a smooth schedule and have more control over the quality. A cheaper option would be finding a contractor that's doing his own thing (hopefully licensed) but one man shows come with their own limitations so you have to know that going in. Above us, there are remodelers with designers and engineers in house. That would be the most expensive option but would give you the highest service.
- Have pre-site visit materials sent to them. This comes in the form of a text and or email that has FAQs, maybe a video introducing yourself. This shows them you have your stuff together before you get there.
