What advice do you have for starting a new service business?

Hi everyone! I'm Ryan with Jackson Site Services. Just starting out as a skid steer services business in Central Oklahoma and about to bid my first driveway install and maintenance contracts.

What advice does anyone have for both just getting started and first jobs?

What's the best advice you were ever given?

Congrats on taking your first and most important step ... just starting! When you first start out, you will probably need to be the best price to get money coming in and reviews on your GMB page. Once you get a good number of reviews, you can start to raise your prices. Early on, be an excellent communicator. Give daily updates, confirmation your team is on their way, take lots of pictures, and make sure to walk them through their project at the end. Then ask for a video testimonial. They will be more likely to give you that when you are small like that.

Best advise I ever got was to simplify my pricing. For us, we were spending a lot of time trying to figure out prices hourly. Just figure out your day rate per guy, then build your estimates based off of that. It will save you some time and a few head aches.
